    Ethos & Advisory Committees

Each school within the Trust belongs to an Ethos & Advisory Committee which reports to the Board of Trustees with delegated powers. These committees meet regularly and are accountable to the Board of Trustees.

Ensuring strength of relationship between the school and governance is important to us. Through the Trust’s Scheme of Delegation, there are clear responsibilities and accountability structures that ensure that support and challenge is in place across the school. Each Ethos Board has a designated Ethos Portfolio Holder who takes the lead on monitoring and evaluating the Christian Ethos, Inclusion, Safeguarding and Teaching and Learning across the Hub schools, triangulating information, asking the questions ‘what is it like to be a pupil/staff member/parent at this school?’, monitoring the priorities and impact of the leadership team, providing challenge and professional dialogue and feeding back to the wider EAC team to increase understanding of strengths and next steps.

The impact of this role was noted in the recent Ofsted inspection “Governors and Trustees know the school’s strengths and areas of development. They support and challenge leaders. Leaders and Governors have a shared vision for the future development of the school. (Ofsted 2023)”

Ellacombe C of E Academy is a member of the Torquay Ethos & Advisory Committee.
